Appreciating Each Other Through Cultural Competence


Culture has a profound impact one's health practices as well as acceptance and understanding of healthcare. This course aims to improve the quality of care and outcomes in healthcare through cultural competence, diversity, equity and inclusion.

This course offers 2 credit hours towards Cultural Competency for NV nurses. However, recent legislature updated the mandatory requirements for licensed Nevada nurses, effective January 1, 2024.

AB 267 changed the mandatory requirement of continuing education in cultural competency, NOW REQUIRING 4 HOURS, INSTEAD OF 2 HOURS, EACH RENEWAL CYCLE.

Furthermore, SB 439 requires licensees who provide or supervise emergency medical services in a hospital or primary care to take at least 2 hours of continuing education in the stigma, discrimination and unrecognized bias towards persons who have acquired or are at high risk of acquiring human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) within 2 years after beginning to provide or supervise the provision of such services or care.
